This week, all of the ISM students attended the Business Symposium at Independence High School. I also had my last two informational interviews this week. The Business Symposium was great for networking with professionals in a wide range of fields and practicing interviewing skills. I got to have an extra interview instead of networking with the students in my group, which was beneficial. Mr. Wysong’s presentation was very informative with his advice about life. It allowed me to take a closer look at my ISM journey to make sure that my goals in this class aligned with my long-term goals.
Completing my interviews was a big accomplishment as well. I had interviews this week with the general counsels of Southwest Airlines and WorldLink. These interviews affirmed that I need to consider the industry I want to practice international corporate law. The airline industry involves completely different laws and regulations compared to the technology industry. One day becoming a general counsel seems like it is far away since many people start out at law firms prior to becoming an in-house attorney. I think that a law firm will provide me with unique opportunities and skills that will allow me to eventually work for a corporation.
