Blog Post #26

4/2/18

Over the past week, I have worked on my final product, logging over 14 hours and I also went on a mentor visit which involved H-1B visas. I wrote my Product Progress Assessment, which resulted in the reorganization of my calendar in order to accurately account for changes in the process of my final product. Originally on my calendar, I included that I would be creating my website weeks after I had finished the scenarios. I also moved the time when I would interview people later on within the process.

During my mentor visit, I sat in on the legal team working on the H-1B visas that would be sent in over the weekend. The team needs to make sure that each application has sufficient documents and lines up with the immigration requirements. There are a total of 85,000 H-1B visas available each year, and 20,000 of those go to individuals with masters degrees. I was surprised to find out that the application process is extremely risky considering that they are looked at on a lottery system, and USCIS only accepts applications on April 2 and will throw out any applications arriving before or after that date. Next week, I will also have another mentor visit and I will be updating my portfolio with my additional work.
