Blog Post #18

This week in ISM I watched original work presentations, attended a mentor visit and brainstormed what my final product will be. My original work presentation is coming up this Friday and I will need to be preparing it throughout the week. I will ensure that I am dressed professionally and have my binder with me. I enjoyed listening to my peers’ presentations and seeing how their original work really helped them to have a deeper understanding of their topic and become more involved with their field.

In my mentor visit on Thursday, I got to see the process of employee sponsorship and the process to get a green card. Due to the stricter enforcement of the immigration laws, companies are having to audit their records and ensure that all of their employees are compliant with the new regulations. When discussing topics of immigration and company sponsorship of employees with Mrs. Wiemann, we brainstormed ideas for my final product. I have decided that I will be studying the complexities of the different visas available for immigrants to the United States, mainly focusing on the work-related aspects, and then comparing this data to another country. I plan to do this in the form of a research paper or even a website that can display the information that could be useful to a potential immigrant seeking work.
