This past week in ISM I worked on my first research assessment and building my contact list. My research assessment was a career outlook on lawyers, which is very broad considering I want to specifically focus on corporate law. Since law is such a broad field it covered a large range of data and skills necessary to be a lawyer, but I considered the information through the lens of international corporate law. Additionally, when building my contact list, I focused on finding potential individuals through LinkedIn. I identified people by discovering the General Counsel positions of companies headquartered in the Dallas/Fort Worth area who operate on an international level. This allowed me to discover a large range of international corporations in the area, ranging from software to restaurant companies. Looking into all of these companies took a considerable amount of time since I had to figure out whether or not the company I was looking up operated internationally. Finally, I had sent LinkedIn invitations to over 25 individuals, and now 7 of these professionals have connected with me. I have sent 5 requests for informational interview through LinkedIn message and am awaiting responses. In the coming week, I expect to set up dates for at least 2 interviews.
